- What departments are you involved in?
Operations and Public Relations
- Where is home for you?
Home is North Carolina. I grew up in Raleigh, attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (go Heels!), and have spent as much time as possible on the coast of North Carolina at Atlantic Beach. After college, I moved to Shanghai, China. I spent several years there, and it will always hold a special place in my heart. I have recently returned to Raleigh, and I’m enjoying spending more time with my family.
- Where do/did you go to school etc.?
I completed my Bachelor’s degree at the University of North Carolina, and I completed my Master’s degree at North Carolina State University.
- What does your general day look like?
I wake up around 7:00am to take my foster dog, Jax, on a 2 mile walk before feeding him and heading to school. This year, due to Covid, I am teaching a pod of students unable to attend school in person. I love them dearly, and we are making the most of this unique experience. Most days after school, I do a Peloton 10 minute arms class with my mom (a minimal attempt at trying to keep her young and healthy … it’s better than nothing), take Jax on another walk, and then I head to a Burn Boot Camp workout class with one of my childhood best friends. In the evening, I enjoy happy hours, eating good food with friends, and watching college sports. Most nights I fall asleep watching Law and Order SVU.
- Why STRUT?
I have chosen to intern with STRUT because its mission is one that I greatly value, and it is a wonderful opportunity to develop skills outside of the classroom. As an elementary school teacher, I have always felt strongly about developing my students’ SEL skills, in hopes that they would one day become adults with higher EQ. STRUT provides me the opportunity to work towards that goal on a much larger scale, while simultaneously allowing me to gain hands on experience in areas that I’m interested in pursuing.
- Any fun facts?
I absolutely love to box. I have previously trained and fought in two amateur white collar events. I will hopefully be making a return to the ring in the near future.
